The 1Health Phase II Interprofessional Simulation Activity sessions offer students a skill-building experience designed specifically for health professions students who are at the pre-clinical stage in their program.

These virtual sessions offer students a unique opportunity to engage with peers in a simulated care conference. Through this activity, students will watch a video of a simulated patient encounter and engage in meaningful discussions with an interprofessional group to develop a collaborative care plan for a patient. This will allow students to deepen their understanding of effective interprofessional team collaboration skills and develop the skills needed to effectively contribute to a team.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the importance of having a variety of health professionals on health teams.
Recognize interprofessional interactions in a clinical team.
Demonstrate the ability to respectfully participate in an interprofessional team discussion about a patient.

Activity Overview:

Join the live, synchronous Zoom session and engage in the activity introduction.
Activity includes viewing a video of a simulated patient encounter and engaging in meaningful discussions with a group of interprofessional peers to develop a collaborative care plan for a patient.
Participate in a large group debriefing discussion at the end of the activity.

Session Information:

Each session is 90 minutes in length, and you must have access to a good internet connection in order to fully engage in the activity via Zoom with both video and audio.
Each student need only participate in ONE session; This is not an ongoing, multi-session experience.
There are two types of sessions - one that includes a patient video based in a hospital setting and one that includes a patient video based in a skilled nursing facility setting. These different settings are used to depict a more realistic, relevant experience for students from a variety of health professional programs.
- Hospital-based IPE Simulation Sessions may include students from the following programs: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietetics, Pharmacy, Social Work, Speech Language Pathology.
- Skilled Nursing Facility IPE Simulation Sessions may include students from the following programs: Audiology, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Dental Therapy, Medicine, MHA, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Social Work.
