CIH Affiliate Faculty & Ambassador Program

The Center for Interprofessional Health (CIH) Affiliate Faculty & Ambassador Program is an educational continuum designed to engage UMN faculty, staff, or community-based health professionals who are interested in:

interprofessional teaching
interprofessional innovations
interprofessional practice
and/or faculty-initiated interprofessional research

Beginning in AY 2024-25, this program is expanding to include three distinct roles to support and engage individuals as they progress from the interprofessional knowledge- and skill-development phases and move into more complex interprofessional project engagement and leadership. Program engagement for all three roles will take place throughout the time frame of July - May each year.

Year 1

CIH Affiliate Faculty Role

During the first year, CIH Affiliate Faculty members will deepen their knowledge and understanding about the Center for Interprofessional Health, the 1Health interprofessional education curriculum, and related partners and programs. Individuals who engage in their first year of the Affiliate Faculty program are expected to contribute 25-30 hours total, which includes monthly meetings with an Affiliate Faculty group, as well as direct involvement in interprofessional teaching and facilitation.

Year 2

CIH Senior Affiliate Faculty Role

After completing an initial year in the CIH Affiliate Faculty program, individuals may apply to transition into a CIH Senior Affiliate Faculty member. Individuals who engage in the Senior Affiliate Faculty role are expected to contribute 25-30 hours total, which includes monthly meetings with a Senior Affiliate Faculty group, as well as the opportunity to engage in an interprofessional project or take on more leadership in interprofessional teaching.

CIH Ambassador Role

After completing both the Affiliate Faculty and Senior Affiliate Faculty roles, individuals may apply to become CIH Ambassadors. As a CIH Ambassador, individuals will apply the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout the first two years of the program to create a self-driven project. Projects may be related to interprofessional research or a new interprofessional innovation, and must be in alignment with the CIH strategic goals. Ambassadors are expected to contribute 25-30 hours total, which includes regular meetings and project-specific mentorship.

Examples of Affiliate Faculty & Ambassador Engagement

Examples of interprofessional teaching might include: facilitating interprofessional curriculum sessions, mentoring IPE Scholars students who are interested in interprofessional group facilitation and learning, etc.
Examples of interprofessional innovations might include: creating a new IPE learning opportunity, developing tools and resources to support and encourage evidence-based interprofessional education and practice, etc.
Examples of interprofessional practice might include: serving as an interprofessional champion to support and offer interprofessional debriefings for learners onsite, develop opportunities for interprofessional engagement and interactions onsite, gather interprofessional team outcomes data from patients, etc.
Examples of interprofessional research might include: collaborating with other Affiliate Faculty members to develop an interprofessional research initiative, mentoring IPE Scholars students to support their research project, etc.
