What do you enjoy most about interprofessional activities?
What I enjoy most about interprofessional activities is the opportunity to learn directly from individuals in other health professions and better understand how each role contributes to patient care. These experiences allow me to see how different perspectives and areas of expertise come together to form a more complete approach to solving clinical problems. I especially value the collaborative discussions that occur during interprofessional activities because they highlight how communication, respect, and shared decision-making are essential to effective teamwork in healthcare.
How do interprofessional activities enhance your learning and/or training?
Interprofessional activities enhance my learning by helping me connect the knowledge I gain in the classroom to the real-world team-based environment of healthcare. Working alongside students or professionals from other disciplines helps me develop a deeper understanding of the scope of practice, training, and clinical reasoning used by different members of the healthcare team. These experiences also strengthen skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving, which are critical for providing safe, patient-centered care.
How do you envision incorporating what you learn through interprofessional activities into your future career?
In my future career as a physician, I hope to actively foster collaborative relationships with other healthcare professionals to provide the best possible care for patients. Interprofessional experiences have reinforced the importance of valuing the expertise of colleagues in fields such as nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work. I plan to incorporate what I learn by prioritizing open communication, seeking input from other professionals when making clinical decisions, and contributing to a team environment where each member’s perspective is respected. Ultimately, I believe strong interprofessional collaboration leads to better patient outcomes and a more supportive healthcare environment.
