Tabitha Nyagaka is a Master's of Nursing Student and an Interprofessional Education (IPE) Scholar.

What do you enjoy most about interprofessional activities?
I enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with students from different healthcare disciplines and learn how each profession contributes to patient care. Hearing diverse perspectives helps me appreciate the complexity of healthcare and reminds me that the best patient outcomes happen when professionals work together and respect each other’s expertise.

How do interprofessional activities enhance your learning and/or training?
Interprofessional activities enhance my learning by helping me understand how different healthcare roles intersect in real clinical situations. As a nursing student with a background in psychology, these experiences allow me to see how physical health, mental health, and social factors all influence patient outcomes. At the U, I’ve also been able to create a cultural student group, which was a highlight of my undergraduate years. Working alongside students from other fields strengthens my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for providing holistic care.

How do you envision incorporating what you learn through interprofessional activities into your future career?
In my future career as a nurse, I hope to work closely with interdisciplinary teams to support both the physical and mental well-being of patients. My long-term goal is to work in mental health, and interprofessional collaboration will be essential in ensuring patients receive comprehensive care from providers across different specialties. I hope to contribute to healthcare environments where teamwork, cultural humility, and open communication are prioritized to better serve diverse communities.
