Three University of Minnesota faculty were recently inducted into the National Academies of Practice (NAP). The prestigious honor acknowledges their outstanding achievements and recognizes them as leaders in their professions.
The following Class of 2022 honorees were welcomed into the NAP at an awards and induction ceremony in San Diego on March 5, 2022:
- Laura K. Molgaard, DVM, FNAP, dean, College of Veterinary Medicine
- Sara North PT, DPT, MEd, PNAP, assistant professor, Division of Physical Therapy, Medical School
- Barbara Peterson, PhD, PMHCNS-BC, APRN, FNAP, clinical associate professor, School of Nursing University of Minnesota
Induction into the National Academies of Practice is an honor extended to those who have excelled in their profession and are dedicated to furthering interprofessional practice, scholarship and policy in support of interprofessional care.
“It is a tremendous honor to be inducted into the National Academies of Practice as a distinguished fellow in the Nursing Academy,” said Peterson. “My commitment to interprofessional care has been foundational in my teaching psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners and in my clinical care for children and adolescents with mental health problems. Distinguished fellows and scholars are elected from 14 health professions to join NAP, and I look forward to contributing to interprofessional care through this organization.”
“I am honored to join the National Academies of Practice as a Professional Member,” said North. “I find meaning in this NAP initiative, which inducts committed health professionals with less than 10 years of experience, because it fosters the energy and ideas of the next generation of interprofessional champions. Honoring and engaging emerging leaders in the interprofessional space ensures a robust, evolving leadership and membership model with a tangible impact on our communities and colleagues.”
“I feel that membership in NAP will advance my ability to collaborate interprofessionally beyond my many past interprofessional collaborations—including medicine, physical therapy, public health and dentistry—as well as bring a new voice to the role of veterinarians in interprofessional practice,” said Molgaard.
The central purpose of NAP is to advise public policy makers on health care issues using NAP's unique perspective—that of expert practitioners and scholars joined in interprofessional dialogue and advocacy.
